Confocal Laser Endomicroscopy in the Field of Esophageal Diseases

Confocal laser endomicroscopy (CLE) is a new endoscopic imaging technology that allows real-time, high-resolution observation of tomographic images mucosal cells and subcellular levels in vivo, detecting microscopic structural changes morphology, its vivo immediate pathological diagnostic capability can avoid delays diagnosis reduce the pain caused by repeated biopsies. CLE known as “optical biopsy” compared with other techniques, it has obvious advantages. systems include probe-based confocal (pCLE) endoscope-based (eCLE). Since 2006, been widely used for evaluation various lesions digestive system, including esophageal, gastric, colonic neoplasia, pancreatic cysts solid lesions, inflammatory bowel disease. The advent made possible, which changed screening multiple gastrointestinal (GI) lesions. However, value use GI diseases still controversial. In this review, we focus on application field esophageal diseases.
